Some very sad news this week for the Hip Hop community another artist lost too soon. The rapper known to the world as
Craig Mack dies at age 46. Mack best known for his 1994 hit song Flava In Ya Ear. The track was one of the Bad Boy label’s first super star hits. Some have said that if it were not for Mack Bad Boy label might not have gotten off to such a great start.
The Flava In Ya Ear remix kicked off the solo careers of Rapper’s Busta Rhymes and The Notorious B.I.G.. The song ruled over the summer of 1994 but for some reason unknown to me Mack’s career seem to be put on the back burner at Bad Boy. Craig had a unique style of rhyme and his word play was excellent. He helped to usher in a new era in Hip Hop with his stop and go style of rap.
Mack died in Walterboro, South Carolina, USA. It has been reported that Mack suffered from heart disease for some time and the cause of death has been reported as heart failure. Mack is survived by his wife and two adult children. Our hearts go out to them and the rest of Mack’s family and friends. He was truly a Hip Hop pioneer and he will be greatly missed by all true Hip Hop heads. He may have been put on the back burner at Bad Boy but he will always be the king of the summer of 94 for us.
Let us not forget this brilliant star and all that he has done for Hip Hop. Craig Mack was a giant of a rapper who’s career and life faded away too soon. I will never forget Mack’s trans-formative style and his pioneering music. Mack had a chance to speak to the world and he did by kick-in mad flava in ya ear. Long live the spirit of this dynamic king and Hip Hop legend. R.I.P. Craig Mack May 10, 1971 – March 12, 2018 gone but not forgotten.
